Cochlear Implants

How do I know I need a Cochlear Implant?
  • Hearing loss
  • The inability to hear speech, even with a hearing aid
What’s going on behind the scenes?
While hearing aids provide benefit to a majority of people, when one’s hearing organ (cochlea) is too far impaired, hearing aids are no longer helpful. A cochlear implant consists of an external portion that sits behind the ear and a second portion that is surgically placed under the skin.
How Tucson ENT can help:
In some cases where you suspect cochlear damage, we can run audiometric testing to evaluate candidacy for cochlear implantation. This is a surgery where an electrode is inserted into the cochlea to directly stimulate the hearing nerve. Cochlear implantation can be a life-changing surgery for those who have nonfunctional hearing.
